CFC ATB August Transmission #1 8/1/2022

Hello All,

Welcome to August all! Summer is in full swing and not pulling any punches with this heat, humidity, and daily storm threats. I am happy to report that hasn’t seem to keep any of you from still coming out to play in the dirt with us as we hit 30 riders last Wednesday!!! Proud of you all for showing up.

Before I talk about the ride plan this week (while I hopefully still have your attention), there is some information to share with the class:

  • We’ve changed the email subject header from MTB to ATB as we feel it better represents the activities of the group. We are All Terrain Bikers – road, gravel, dirt, grass, you name it, and we enjoy riding them all with all. So just note, we are All Terrain and All Inclusive.

  • For the First Annual Cookeville Bike Festival / Biketown Movie Premiere we need volunteers to help with monitoring the 3 entrance/exit gates to be sure no alcoholic beverages are leaving. We’d like 2 volunteers per gate and will need 6-8p and 8-10p shifts to be covered. We could also use some help setting up the gates and such before the event as well. Please email me if you are available to help.
  • A few of you have reached out with regards to volunteering, I’ll be emailing the volunteers later this week with event information and to coordinate schedules.

  • Our friend and fellow cyclist A.C. Shilton is putting on a women’s beginner/intro gravel event August 20th at Big South Fork/Pickett State Park.  Ride starts at 8am CDT / 9am EDT. I will be attending to help support A.C. and it would be spectacular to have a strong showing of our Upper Cumberland women riders at the event. Current ride plan has a 12 mile lollipop loop with plenty of options to add extra miles if desired.

  • UCI MTB World Cup has it’s 2nd North American Stop this weekend with Mont-Sainte-Anne’s World Cup XC and DH races. You know we’ll be watching the live streams at the shop in preparation for the Biketown event. Join us.

Given the rain constantly shifting in and out of the forecast, the current view looks promising for the Wednesday Nite XC@CC* ride, so I expect to see you all at CFC to roll out at 5:30 PM (or shortly thereafter). For those driving over, meet at the CC Rec Center Parking lot around 6PM.

After the laps, we’ll travel posthaste to Hix Farm Brewery for trivioke, beverages, tall tales, and comraderie.

This week’s Saturday Ride Plans:

This Saturday will be a full day of bike related fun. The morning Cane Creek MTB ride will happen weather/conditions permitting Meet at CFC at 8:00 AM to ride over to CC or meet us at the CC Rec Center Parking lot at  8:15 AM. Coffee, tummy treats, and tall tales enjoyed at Soulcraft Coffee post ride. Followed by Redbull TV live feed from UCI MTB World Cup racing at the shop.

*What is the XC@CC ride?

XC = Cross Country Mountain Biking CC = Cane Creek

We ride a short urban jaunt over to Cane Creek Park. Then ride as many or as little laps as we each feel like at whatever pace we feel like – regrouping every lap at the “talking spot” near the original trail head entrance. Then we roll back as a group. This ride is more about fun off-road riding rather than being fast and setting KOM records. All ability levels welcome.

Let’s Dig in Cookeville!

A look ahead to upcoming ATB events

Biketown Poster
  • Saturday August 6th UCSORBA presents a special pre-release screening of “Biketown” at Cookeville’s Dogwood Performance Pavillion. 6p-10p. More event details to follow. Tell your friends and their friends as well!

  • We need volunteers to help out with the Biketown Movie night. If you are able and interested send me an email so I can get you hooked up with details.
  •
  • The Weds and Saturday dirt rides aren’t the only rides in the area. There is a standing Thursday night group ride that leaves from the parking lot across from the Shop as well as multiple Tuesday Night Worlds rides. For more info on the Tuesday rides email cfcadventures@gmail.com and ask to get on the email list to stay up to date.
Until next time keep the rubber side down and the stoke turned up.
Cheers!
Thad
